Papaoutai- stromae Directed by Raf Reyntjens. This song would definitely be in this list, as we can see, that even if the lyrics are in french, we could still understand the message that its trying to convey. Its about a boy, and his father not being there (either physically, emotionally or spiritually) for him. We can see how much he longs for his father to do things with him, like he sees the other parents, from the elegant dancing from the two ladies, to the aggressive dancing of the father and son in suits. he didn't care as he watched and admired all of them. The boy just wants his father and that is masterfully shown. On further reading, we can see this was based of stromae's father himself, who died in the tragic Rwandan genocide.
Maps- Maroon 5 written by Adam Levine, Ammar Malik, Ryan Tedder, Benny Blanco and Noel Zancanella, and produced by the latter three. In this video we start with the end of the story, we see that the man is in the hospital to find his dying girlfriend. This type of storytelling is very good as it tells you what happens, so even people with a short attention span don't have to wait for a build up for the climax. Then we go backward through the story, and we learn what caused what happened.
La La La - naughty boy ft. Sam Smith. La La La" was written by Khan, Jonny Coffer, Al-Hakam El Kaubaisy, Frobisher Mbabazi, James Murray, Jimmy Napes, Mustafa Omer, and Sam Smith, and produced by Naughty Boy, Komi, and Mojam. to the normal people, you can definitely see the resemblance to the wizard of oz, with the lion being the dog, tin man being the oddly coloured man, and the scarecrow being the traffic warden. There is even a direct correlation with a human heart put into the left side pocket of the tin man. However, there is another story running in this too, the bolivian folk tale of the deaf boy, who stopped people being possessed by the devil by shouting. The cave which he was supposed to go into has screamed ever since, but it stopped whe this music video was released
Stitches - Shawn Mendes- written by Danny Parker, Teddy Geiger, and Daniel Kyriakides. Produced by Daylight, Teddy Geiger, Danny Parker. There is only one person in this entire video, but we can see that throughout he is getting beaten up and is slowly gaining cuts and wounds. his video discusses the emotional damage that a relationship can do, after they've broken up and he realises he cannot live without her. Because he tries o live without her he slowly gets more injured.
I like the meaning of this music video as well as how it is shown, and i would wish to do something inspired by this in the future
