A record label is a brand or trademark associated with the marketing of music recordings and music videos. Record labels are usually also responsible for the publishing of the band, as well as the production and publishing of the music videos to accompany them
Currently, there are only 3 record labels that can be classed as major record labels
1: Sony music entertainment
2: universal Music group
3: Warner Music Group
And of course, these may have subsidiary companies and labels. Any others are known as independent companies, no matter of size or structure.
Sub labels are record labels that are owned by larger companies , for instance, RCA records ,which the Hoosiers were signed with up to 2011, were a sub label of Sony


UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP
Universal is the largest of the three major record companies. It was originally owned by Universal Pictures, however it was sold to french media conglomerate Vivendi.
Univeral music group was formed when the company company Seagram purchased PolyGram, and merged it in to the Music group in 1998. In 2012, UMG completed their absorption of EMI, A British record label comany, making them the biggest record company.

SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT
SME is he second biggest Record group, whic is owned by Sony corporation of America, which is a subsidiary of itself, being Sony Corporation Japan. The company was founded in 1929, when it then changed its name in 1991.

WARNER MUSIC GROUP

Warner is the third biggest record company, as well as being the Largest American owned Record company. It was founded in 1958 as a subsidiary of Warner bro's pictures. In 2011, WMG Was sold to access industries for 3.3 billion USD, where it was then taken off of the stock market soon afterwards.
