Wheels fell off Analysis.

Do you remember when the wheels fell off the bus

[Recollection of an accident or similarly unpleasant event]

We were heading for a wedding and there was no stopping us

[Love implications. Indestructible together]

I fell head over heels but that wasn't enough

[Establishing love interest.]

And now the bolts that bind us have all just turned to rust

[Used to be close but have broken apart]

I wonder what's under your bandages

[She’s been living under a mask during the relationship.]

We speak the same words in different languages

[They don’t understand each other, or why they liked each other, but still retain similarities.]

Just say the word and I'll help you to unfreeze

But it's so hard when you don't know the word for please

[She’s controlling, demands rather than requests.]

Do you remember when the wheels fell off the bus

[Reversal of roles, stereo-typically the man is the abuser.]

I was caught dragging my heels when you were in a rush

[Losing interest in relationship, starting to decline.]

Driving has a way of proving perilous

[Reckless or dangerous behaviour. She’s “Driving his car” so to speak.]

What good's a steering wheel when your hands have both been crushed

[He has no control over possible abuse.]

To catch perfection with a net and rod

[“Fishing” for compliments. Manipulates and guilt drips him into telling her she’s perfect.]

White whales haunt your vision and you lose sight of what you've got

[Intertextuality to Moby Dick. Lost sight of the true meaning of a relationship.]

You are unshakeable in your self-belief

[Won’t hear of and refuses to accept she’s in the wrong]

Just like all madmen who succumb to the deep

[Tone shift, juxtaposed music wise, darker themes implied.]

Tell me where did you go

[She’s changed, or either of them could be husks of their former selves.]

Tell me where did our friend go

[Before the relationship they were good friends which he misses.]

Tell me where did our friend go

[Lamenting the loss of what they once had.]

Pangaea to Atlantis

[Refers to time before continental shift, relates to how their relationship went from a wide open, connect space (Pangaea) to an enclose, trapped and small space (Atlantis) which sounds better than it actually is.]

In just under a year

[All these vents were in quick succession, all happen and over in under a year.]

You did all the drifting

[Refers to movement, she was the only one that wanted the relationship to go the way he didn’t want.]

So I'm gonna save my tears

[After all that has happened he feels she isn’t worth his tears.]

Probably all my fault

[Imitating how the abuser would manipulate the situation to make him the bad guy.]

That you couldn't be more wrong

[Takes back his previous statement, shifting it to the truth that she is at fault.]

I've tried too hard for too long

Too hard for too long

[He has given up trying to be with her. Could have defended her and fabricated ways she could have been morally correct but is tired of making excuses.]
