Iconography is a great way for bands, record labels and producers let their fans know who they are. This can be achieved through great use of imagery and so it implies a further message.

The easiest way to see iconography is through a logo. The Arctic monkeys have a very distinct logo that appears everywhere

And so when we see that, we know its the arctic monkeys without any need for a name.

A different type of iconography would be one where abstract art could insinuate a meaning and tone for the album you are about to listen to. for example we shall take the Illusion of safety.

The iconography here appeals to the angst in today's teens, who are just about ready to leave their homes and traverse into the outside world. This is obviously scary and full f the unknown as shown by the shadowy figures. This album and the band is bringing you back to familiarity, albeit for a short time, therefore it is an illusion of safety and nostalgia.
